For the first time, the classic Midsummer celebration on Brännö Island in the Gothenburg Archipelago has been moved to a different day.
The Brännöföreningen made this decision due to the overwhelming influx of tourists, which reached over 2,000 last year.
Traditionally a local event for the island's 900 residents, the festival has drawn visitors from places as far as Austria, France, and New Zealand.
Local residents, feeling that the festival has become more for outsiders, will now celebrate on a new date to reclaim their sense of community.
The shift aims to balance the island's charm while making locals feel more at home during the festivities.
