Today marks the beginning of the trial against two berry company owners in Åsele, accused of human trafficking and witness tampering.
Prosecutor Petra Götell argues that 150 Thai berry pickers were subjected to forced labor and poor living conditions in Sweden.
The workers testified about their dire circumstances, including sleeping in the forest, eating animal remains, and receiving insufficient food.
The case has drawn criticism towards several societal institutions for ignoring the plight of the Thai workers for years.
Both defendants deny the charges.
