Skåne University Hospital has announced plans to save approximately 640 million Swedish kronor, equating to a reduction of around 640 positions.
The decision, passed with a vote of 6-4, implies that not all vacancies arising from staff departures will be automatically refilled.
Instead, two-thirds of such positions will be considered for reappointment based on the operational needs and required skill sets.
This move has sparked controversy, with opposition parties labeling it a significant blow to healthcare services at the hospital's Malmö and Lund locations.
Despite concerns, the hospital's board chair, Maria Berglund, asserts that the institution will continue to function effectively, minimizing the impact on healthcare delivery.
