Thousands of liters of oil spilled into Pukaviks Bay in Blekinge last fall when the passenger ferry Marco Polo ran aground.
Sölvesborg municipality, severely affected by the spill, will now receive 17 million kronor in compensation from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
The accident occurred in October when the ship's faulty GPS led to it running aground twice, releasing around 165,000 liters of oil.
Sölvesborg applied for state compensation in March for the cleanup effort, which lasted until the end of the year.
MSB has now approved and disbursed the funds.
